The Way Forward

There are currently no approved treatments for Long COVID. Some Long COVID patients find relief from their symptoms through supplements and off-label use of medications, but no medication has been found by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to significantly help Long COVID symptoms for most people. Additionally, many LC patients have trouble finding a doctor who understands LC and has an idea of what medications to try. Patients of color may have an especially difficult time getting diagnosed and treated.

The United States must invest in medical research to understand the biology behind Long COVID and develop effective treatments to give patients their lives back. We must expand access to treatment for Long COVID patients and educate healthcare providers about the condition. Communities of color and rural communities, which have historically faced inadequate access to healthcare, must receive equitable education about and treatment for Long COVID. We need medical research and the infrastructure to turn discoveries into real improvements for patients, because Long COVID impacts all of our communities and our lives as Americans.
